Tivaivai Workshop
Tivaivai are traditional Cook Islands ceremonial cloths used for celebrating important stages in a Cook Islander’s life.
The tapa (barkcloth) covers of pre-European times live on in patchwork coverlets, intricately designed, often richly embellished and mostly laborious in execution.
Tivaivai accompany our people from birth to passing and form part of a family’s wealth. They serve as physical representation of the strong bond between relatives often scattered over a number of Pacific islands and countries and beyond.
