Southern Cross - Sailing
The Southern Cross is a fifty-eight foot ketch rigged yacht, Cook Island surveyed to carry 25 passengers inshore waters.
Passengers are welcomed aboard by the captain Paul Green and introduced to the crew, a short safety briefing is held.
Southern Cross departs Avatiu harbour, passengers are invited to take the helm and steer the boat or help with the sails if that is their interest or just sit and enjoy the view. Depending on the wind we generally sail or motor sail west along the island, the view is very special as it is the only way to really appreciate the size and beauty of Rarotonga, the water is the most amazing color of blue you can see.
During the Whale season (July to October) humpback whales are frequently seen on most days and have been known to come right up to and under the boat. The game boats are fishing in the same area and you may get to see them pulling in a fish. The downwind sail takes about one hour fifteen minutes; we turn around at the Crown Beach resort for the return journey.
